Another police officer assaulted.

Nkayi police has arrested a 32-year-old man who allegedly attacked police officers with stones
during an arrest following a tip-off that he and his accomplices were planning to commit robbery in
Inyathi.
Police in a statement said Thompson Banda (32) pounced on the officers on Saturday as he was
evading arrest.
“The police officers had pounced on the suspect and his seven other accomplices who had planned
to conduct a robbery at Matopa, Inyathi. Investigations are in progress.”
Meanwhile in the same district, police on Monday also arrested an 18-year-old boy accused of
stealing two Zupco bus batteries at a Bus Terminus.
“ZRP Nkayi arrested an ex-ZUPCO bus conductor, Excellent Maseko (18) for theft of two ZUPCO bus
batteries. The arrest led to the recovery of the stolen batteries.
Police said the offence was discovered on the same day after the driver had parked the bus with the
batteries intact at Zupco depot the previous night.
