    Arrested for assaulting sister-in-law

    MARONDERA- The police are investigating a rape case whereby a 21-year-old woman was reportedly raped by her 31-year-old brother-in-law at Nyamutumbu Village, Chief Mangwende, Murehwa.

    The police confirmed the incident which occurred on December 31 last year when the complainant was staying at her aunt’s home at Murehwa.

    The aunt, aged 26, years had decided to leave her one-year child in the custody of the complainant and the accused person who is her husband, whilst she proceeded to Bindura to visit her sick mother.

    The accused person then reportedly demanded to be intimate with the complainant who refused and allegations are that he forcibly directed her to his bedroom where he followed her.

    Upon entering the bedroom, the accused pushed the complainant on the bed and raped her once.

    After the heinous act, the accused threatened the complainant not to disclose what he had done and the complainant proceeded to her room to sleep.

    On February 20, the complainant disclosed the matter to her husband and the case was reported at Musami police who attended the scene, leading to the arrest of the accused.

    In another case, a woman from Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe was raped last Monday. The complainant’s aunt from Purazi Village, Chief Chitsungo in Pfungwe left the complainant sleeping with her 11-year-old cousin alone at home.

    The aunt reportedly left the door closed but unlocked and proceeded to a nearby bus stop.
    After sometime, the complainant woke up and noticed that there was an unknown adult in the room and she notified her cousin who then covered herself with a blanket in fear.

    The accused person reportedly carried the complainant to another room in the same building, laid her on the floor and raped her once.

    On the following day, the aunt was informed about the unfortunate incident and a report was made to the police, whose investigations are ongoing.
