BEITBRIDGE — The National Industrial Fire Control Association (NIFCA) hosted the National Blaze Games, which attracted about 500 industrial firefighters.
The national competitions held in the border town had teams from mining, power generation, oil and gas and manufacturing sectors.
The NIFCA Chairperson, Farai Matambo said the competitions brought together leading industries and over 500 firefighters.
ZimBorders Manager Nqobile Ncube said the games come to a facility born from fire disasters.
“We lost at least three warehouses pre-modernisation because there were not adequate responses. Because of that there was a major focus when modernisation came to have a robust firefighting mechanism.”
He said the new $300 million border now has sprinklers, fire water tanks and trained first responders, and ZimBorders helped train Beitbridge Municipality firefighters.
“We believe this activity will create greater awareness of how best to manage and mitigate fire issues… and keep our border safe,” Ncube said.
