It is a hive of activity in Gwanda town as residents jostled to cast their votes at different polling stations while the elderly were allowed to jump the queue at, Phakama tent’s Gwanda High School.

Gogo Agnes Ndlovu (102) was among the first voters who thronged Gwanda High School to exercise her constitutional right. She braved the scorching sun to cast her vote saying doing so was the only way she will ensure that her special needs are met.
“I had to brave the heat because, it is my constitutional right to vote. i am happy that this democratic country allows us the aged to vote. I was helped by election officers.
“I would like to show the youths that if I as old as I am can elect my government of choice, what is stopping them from doing the same”? she asked.

Another elderly, Japhet Zikhali who stays at Gwanda people’s home concurred with Ndlovu’s sentiments.

“The election proceedings were very user-friendly to us the elderly. I laud ZEC for that, it was indeed smooth. I did cast my vote here at Gwanda High because it is my right and am content that the government of my choice will head my call,” he said.

Gwanda residents flocked to the polling stations early and relaxed after lunch as voters dwindled.

In Phakama 10, Zanu PF sspiring candidate for Gwanda, Tshitaudze Fisani Moyo said it was done deal for the ruling party in the constituency. “I am happy that the plebiscite is smooth as I haven’t received any complains in this area.”

The outgoing deputy Mayor Ponalo Maphala was unhappy with the whole process after failing to locate his name on the voters roll.
“I am very disappointed that I couldn’t find my name in four polling stations, but after i dialed *265# several times it was there, I sent my concern to the the presiding and agent officers. Time is running out and I won’t make it this year,” he said.

    Matabeleland South has 12 constituencies.
