Masvingo(Masvingo Star-New Ziana) -A 35-year-old man from Bikita, about 80 kilometres east of Masvingo town, was recently jailed for an effective 12 years behind bars for raping a mentally disturbed girl early this year.

Charles Ringisai pleaded guilty to raping the 16-year-old girl when he appeared before Masvingo regional magistrate, Dambudzo Malunga, who sentenced him to 15 years in prison but conditionally suspended three years of the jail term for five years.

According to the prosecutor Richard Nyamombe, on April 14 this year around 3 pm Ringisai came across the girl who was washing clothes by some community gardens.

Rangisai briefly spoke to the girl after which, he persuaded her to accompany him behind some shrubs and she agreed.

While behind the shrubs, Ringisai raped the girl and when he finished, the girl started shouting at him with a loud voice, attracting the attention of her uncle who was working in his garden nearby.

The uncle rushed to the scene to investigate and when he got there, the girl told him about the rape.

He took the girl to the police where she made a report and she was taken to hospital where a medical examination confirmed the rape, leading to the arrest of Ringisai.
