BEITBRIDGE — South Africa’s Border Management Authority (BMA) has confirmed its readiness for the upcoming Easter holiday traffic, having implemented operational plans and extended border hours.

This assurance was given by the Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Communications and Marketing, and official spokesperson for the Border Management Authority, who said all systems are being aligned to ensure smooth movement during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

The announcement follows a high-level inspection visit by Leon Schreiber, South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs, who is scheduled to lead a ministerial oversight tour of the Beitbridge Port of Entry on Monday, March 23.

Michael Masiapato, Commissioner of the BMA, accompanied the minister as part of efforts to assess the country’s preparedness for the Easter influx of travellers.

The visit took place at the Beitbridge Port of Entry, located in the Musina National Control Area. Authorities say the inspection is part of Operation Hi Tivise, an initiative by the Border Management Authority aimed at strengthening border security and improving efficiency.

The upcoming media briefing is expected to provide detailed insights into new operational measures, including adjusted working hours and strategies to manage increased traffic volumes during the holiday period.

Beitbridge is a critical gateway between Zimbabwe and South Africa and typically experiences a surge in cross-border movement during major holidays such as Easter, prompting authorities to increase preparedness and coordination.
