Bulawayo, (New Ziana) – The City of Bulawayo has pledged to work closely with the business community to improve the ease of doing business after receiving a research paper from the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) outlining recommendations aimed at enhancing service delivery.
The study, titled “Ease of Doing Business in Bulawayo”, was presented to Bulawayo Mayor Senator David Coltart, Town Clerk Christopher Dube and the city’s management on Wednesday.
Mayor Coltart welcomed the report, describing it as a valuable contribution towards strengthening the city’s business environment.
“We are grateful to the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce for undertaking this research and presenting its findings to the City.
“The recommendations made are important in helping us improve the ease of doing business in Bulawayo,” he said.
However, the mayor said the local authority would need time to study the document before providing detailed responses.
“The report was received at short notice and, as such, councillors and management need sufficient time to go through its contents before we can comprehensively respond to the issues that have been raised,” said Coltart.
Town Clerk Dube commended the chamber for taking a proactive approach in engaging the local authority on governance and service delivery issues.
“It is essential for stakeholders to articulate how they want to be governed. Such engagement promotes accountability and helps us improve the services we provide,” Dube said.
While city officials addressed some of the issues raised during the meeting, they committed to inviting ZNCC for a follow-up engagement where a comprehensive response to the recommendations will be presented.
The local authority said the engagement reflects its commitment to inclusive governance and regular consultation with stakeholders as it seeks to create a more conducive environment for business and investment.
