Bulawayo, (New Ziana) -The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has introduced a new night-time refuse collection initiative in the Central Business District (CBD) to enhance cleanliness and efficiency in waste management.

In a statement, town clerk Christopher Dube said refuse collection will now take place between 8 PM and 6 AM, following a structured schedule.

“Areas such as Masotsha Ndlovu Avenue to Leopold Takawira Avenue (between Basch Street and Jason Moyo Street) will be serviced on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

“Leopold Takawira Avenue to 15th Avenue between Basch Street and Jason Moyo Street will be serviced on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays,” he said.

Dube implored property owners to cooperate and ensure refuse collection crews access their properties and refuse bins.

“Property owners are kindly requested to ensure refuse collection crews have access to their refuse during the scheduled periods.

“Properties that are not accessible will not have their refuse collected, and owners may be required to transport their waste to the disposal site at their own cost,” he said.

He also reminded residents and business owners of their legal obligations to have proper refuse receptacles.

“By law, property owners in the CBD are required to have proper refuse receptacles. Refuse should be placed in bins or plastic receptacles and kept tidy for collection by the council. Failure to comply may result in prosecution,” he said.

Dube urged all stakeholders to adhere to the new guidelines to ensure the success of the program.
