Bulawayo to host next NAMA Awards

Harare (New Ziana) -Bulawayo has been chosen to host the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) in February next year, for which 100 entries have so far been received.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) director general, Nicholas Moyo said at a press conference in the capital on Thursday.

Moyo said the awards ceremony, slated for February 24 next year, will be held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) grounds.

The inaugural Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation (JCMC) award has been added to a cocktail of other arts categories.

Moyo expressed optimism that the event will be a huge success and thanked the artists and other stakeholders for religiously standing by the event.

“We are very grateful first and foremost to the various stakeholders that have been supporting NAMA over the years, with artists being our key stakeholders for without them this event will also not be there,” he said.

He said so far, the NACZ has received over 100 entries from different arts institutions and individuals in various categories.

Works produced from the beginning of December last year to November this year will be considered for the awards.

The NAMA is the premier award that the NACZ gives in recognition of outstanding achievements in the arts and culture.

The inaugural NAMA was held in February 2002 honouring artists who excelled the previous year, ceremonies and since then, the ceremonies have been in February of each year.
