Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Cabinet met for the last time this year with President Emmerson Mnangagwa commending it for its collective responsibility which contributed to the immense progress that the country made during the tenure of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS-1) economic blueprint.
The meeting coincided with the end of the NDS-1 blueprint, which guided the country’s developmental programs from 2021 to this year, and resulted in the transformation and reinvigoration of public sector performance and delivery mechanisms.
“Today marks our last Cabinet calendar meeting for the year 2025. As a Government, we have remained resolute and steadfast in seeking to fulfill the collective expectations of our citizens. I am pleased to note that our Cabinet proceedings were robust and responsive to the needs of our people. I, therefore, commend all of us for the dedication, commitment, and resilience with which we conducted Cabinet business,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said although attendance by members was encouraging, there is room for improvement, further urging Ministers to avoid missing Cabinet and Cabinet Committee meetings.
He challenged Ministers to reflect on the degree to which their respective Ministries met set targets concerning items submitted at the commencement of the 2025 Cabinet calendar.
“Going into the future, I urge you to continually analyze and satisfy yourselves with all memoranda generated from your Ministries before submission for consideration by Cabinet,” he said.
Despite global shocks experienced during the period of NDS-1, President Mnangagwa noted that the reforms carried out since the Second Republic have been a resounding success.
“Through the unity and hard work of all our people, we have ushered our nation into a new era of hope, development, modernisation, industrialisation, and improved service delivery. The economy demonstrated remarkable resilience, bolstered by strong policy coordination and fiscal prudence. It is indeed pleasing that this year, we continued to witness the strengthening of the macro-economic environment. Our national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) firmed, along with the stabilization of the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency, among other key economic indicators,” he said.
President Mnangagwa launched the NDS-2 on November 27 this year to follow on the NDS-1 and consolidate the achievements made in accelerating economic growth as well as meeting the national vision to become an upper middle income society by 2030.
