MASVINGO — Traditional leader Chief Murinye, born Ephias Munodawafa, has donated two tonnes of staple food to Masvingo General Hospital, reinforcing community efforts to support public health institutions and vulnerable patients.
The donation, comprising one tonne of rice and one tonne of maize meal, was handed over at Benjamin Burombo today.
It was received by the Permanent Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Dr Addmore Pazvakavambwa, who represented the Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Engineer Ezra Ruvai Chadzamira.
Provincial Health Services Administrator Samson Nyoni represented the Provincial Medical Director, while Dr Richard Makoni, the hospital’s Acting Medical Superintendent, represented the Medical Superintendent, Dr Zulu.
Dr Makoni expressed gratitude to Chief Murinye, saying the donation would complement the hospital’s efforts to provide meals and care to patients.
“We are very grateful to Chief Murinye for this generous gesture. Receiving one tonne of rice and one tonne of maize meal is a significant contribution to our institution,” he said.
Dr Makoni said the donation would help ease pressure on the hospital while supporting the welfare of patients.
He added that partnerships involving traditional leaders, communities and other stakeholders were important in strengthening public health institutions.
Dr Pazvakavambwa commended Chief Murinye for the gesture, saying it demonstrated the spirit of Ubuntu and collective responsibility.
He said Government valued contributions from traditional leaders, businesses, development partners and other well-wishers who complemented its efforts to improve the welfare of citizens.
“Government appreciates individuals and traditional leaders who complement its efforts through meaningful contributions to communities,” said Dr Pazvakavambwa.
He urged other stakeholders to emulate Chief Murinye by supporting public institutions and vulnerable members of society.
The donation comes as Government continues to emphasise partnerships and community participation in advancing inclusive development and improving access to essential services.
The food is expected to provide immediate support to Masvingo General Hospital while strengthening collaboration between traditional leadership, Government and the health sector.
