Harare,(New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed seasoned diplomat and intelligence official Paul Chikawa as the new Director-General of the President’s Department.
According to an official press statement issued by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr. Martin Rushwaya, on Friday, said the appointment—made in terms of Section 226(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe—takes immediate effect.
Chikawa, who previously served as Deputy Director-General, rises to the top post replacing Fulton Mangwanya.
Before assuming the deputy role, Chikawa represented Zimbabwe on the international stage as ambassador to China and Cuba, where he played a key role in strengthening bilateral relations and advancing the country’s foreign policy interests.
His appointment places him at the helm of the Central Intelligence Organization (CIO), Zimbabwe’s civilian intelligence agency.
The CIO is mandated with critical national functions including counter-intelligence, internal security, and the protection of high-profile state officials.
Operating under the Minister of State for National Security in the Office of the President and Cabinet, the agency is central to safeguarding national stability and strategic interests.
Meanwhile, Dr. Rushwaya also announced the reassignment of Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission chairperson Jessie Majome to the Public Service Commission as a commissioner.
