BEITBRIDGE businessman, Oscar Chiromo, has called on newly elected councillors
to shun corruption, respect traditional leadership and foster development for their
respective wards.

Chiromo, who runs Sokisi Abattoir at Lutumba, was speaking after being elected the
Beitbridge Rural District Council chairman.

He won comfortably with 12 votes against Cllr Gift Munyais seven votes on Friday.
Cllr Julithah Mutingwende will be Chiromos Deputy.

Elections are over and we start working now. We inherited a clean council and we
must not taint it. There has been absolutely no problem with the council and we
should only make it better, he said.

He appealed to his fellow councillors to work for the development of Beitbridge
District.

We must have respect for elder councillors, who also should respect their juniors.
We must visit each other and share notes. We must leave kraalheads to do their
work and respect cultural leadership, he said.
Councillors, he said, should champion development in their wards.

After his election Chiromo assumed leadership by supervising the election of council
commitee chairpersons namely:

Finance and Audit Committee: Alderman Luka Custer Ndou (He was previous
chairman);
Audit Councillor: Gift Munyai;
Administration, Human Resources and Development: Alderman Ketsina Moyo;
Roads, Projects Planning and Works: Tando Ndlovu;

Social and Community Services: Rabson Mbedzi; and
Natural, Resources, Conservation and Tourism: Luka Custer Ndou.
