Chivhu man arrested for raping a minor

MARONDERA- Police in Chivhu recently arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly
raping a Grade 3 pupil who was on her way from school.

The incident occurred on October 19 in the afternoon.

Allegations are that on the said day, the girl was on her way from school when the
28-year-old man intercepted her along the way and reportedly raped her once before
running away.

The matter only came to light when a villager saw the girl limping and asked her
what had happened, and she narrated her ordeal.

The police spokesperson for Mashonaland East Province, Inspector Simom
Chazovachiyi, confirmed the incident.

He said: “It is alleged that on the 19 th of October, the suspect tripped the girl and
proceeded to undress her and raped her. After he was done, he dressed her and left
the scene. The girl then went home. Two days later, a villager who was passing by
the girl's homestead saw her limping and asked what was wrong with her.

“The girl then disclosed that she had been raped by the accused raped. The villager
informed the girl's father and also made a report to the police. Chivhu police officers
attended the scene and the suspect was arrested while the girl was sent to Chivhu
hospital for medical attention," Inspector Chazovachiyi said in a statement.

He urged parents and guardians to always monitor the movements of their children
and ensure that their safety is always guaranteed.

He advised learners to always walk in groups.
