Chiwaridzo primary head in foiled SDC coup

Share

BINDURA -Chiwaridzo Primary School headmaster, Edson Chuwe, has invited parents for an annual general meeting on Saturday, among other agendas, to dissolve the current school development committee, which recently reported him to Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly misappropriating and stealing school funds.

In his invitation letters to parents, Chuwe said the meeting would be on January 20 at the school grounds.

However, formally the AGM is supposed to be held next month, February, because the incumbents were elected March last year.

The headmaster is reportedly trying to fast-track the dissolution and election of the school development committee, allegedly to cover up his mess.

Chuwe is accused of unilateralism in decisions which ought to be collective between the school administration and the elected school development association members.

In the SDCs letter to ZACC, signed by Chenjerai Komboya, the chairperson, they allege that Chuwe does not want to part with the school’s asset register and that of enrollment.

They suspect he is pocketing some of the school fees for some pupils.

They are also suspecting him of inflating figures and financial statements for some goods and services hired without following the tendering and procurement procedure.

Komboya said Chuwe was also disrespectful of the school development committee.

Once a school of choice in Bindura, Chiwaridzo Primary has been on a down turn in recent months.

Pupils are allegedly always over crowded with some classes having as many as 80 children.

Some classroom roofs leak while driveways have been damaged.

The headmaster is allegedly again in the process of constructing some classrooms out of iron sheets without consulting the school development committee.

According to Fanuel Mabhugu, another SDC member, they now fear that the same iron sheets might be blown by wind and cause some disaster among the young learners.

Chuwe was also allegedly in the habit of hiring drunkards to SDC meetings so that they would jeer and disrupt the executive.

The SDC has since called for parents to boycott the Saturday and fight for transparency at their school.

Both the police and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education confirmed that the Saturday meeting is yet to be cleared by both police and the Ministry.
