Gweru (New Ziana) -THE Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHCD) has commended Zimbabweans for maintaining peace and demonstrating tolerance before, during and after the just ended harmonised elections.

In a pastoral statement on the 2023 harmonised elections, ZHCD said the promotion of peace, cohesion, harmony and tolerance will result in a Zimbabwe that is peaceful, united, prosperous and harmonious.

The ZHCD comprises the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe (EFZ), the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC), and Union for the Development of Apostolic Churches in Zimbabwe Africa (UDACIZA).

“The message of peace and tolerance that the church has been sharing and the messages of peace by the political parties, has contributed to the relatively peaceful environment. We need to prayerfully guard this peace and tolerance.

“The church acknowledges incidences of violence that were reported, however, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) managed to contain them,” said the ZHCD.

It urged political parties and stakeholders to continue amplifying and leading in promoting peace, love, patience, and calm.

Added the ZHCD; “The Church stands ready to offer support, guidance, and meditation where necessary, to ensure that the nation remains peaceful in this post-election period.”

Zimbabweans voted for a President, Parliamentarians and local authority representatives to run state affairs for the next five years on Wednesday while a few areas voted on Thursday due to logistical challenges.

The country has remained peaceful since the results were announced as citizens have put the polls behind them and returned their daily activities of fending for themselves and their families.
