Bulawayo (New Ziana) – Civil servants will this year receive their bonuses in line with the Second Republic`s commitment to improve the welfare of government employees, a cabinet minister has said.

Public Service, Labour and Social Services Minister July Moyo assured civil servants that this year`s 13th cheque will be paid as per tradition.

In an interview with New Ziana on the sidelines of his ministry`s strategic planning meeting currently underway in the second largest city, he said the bonuses will be paid in the manner treasury has always done in past years.

“The Minister of Finance will release the dates when he will be paying, but I want to assure you the bonuses will be paid,” said Moyo.

The government has been improving the lives of civil servants through salary increments and other incentives over the last few years.

Turning to work performance by civil servants, Moyo said public officials should be loyal to the country so that they are able to effectively implement government policies and vision.

He said the civil service had an important role to play towards the attainment of the country`s Vision 2030 as enunciated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“Service delivery by civil servants will be key towards the attainment of an upper middle income status economy by 2030. The President charts a Vision and that Vision is translated into sectoral implementation agencies, ministries and parastatals, provinces, local authority areas up to the individual households, wards and villages,” he said.

“So, if you have people who are not loyal to the President and who are not patriotic, how will they implement his vision?”
