Commuters lose US$1K to robbers

FOUR commuters lost cash and valuables worth US$1 255 to robbers along the
Harare – Mazowe Road last week after boarding their vehicle at Corner Herbert
Chitepo and Second Street intending to go to Bindura and Chiweshe respectively.
The four have been identified as Taurai Kamota (36) and Bridget Kamota (33), all of
Kanhukamwe Village, who were travelling to Chiweshe as well as Nyashadzashe
Maphosa (26) and Khulumani Nkomo, all of Bindura.
Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha, the provincial police deputy spokesperson, in
narrating the quartet’s ordeal said they boarded a Toyota Noah new shape intending
to travel to Chiweshe and Bindura respectively at around 8pm, the Noah had four
passengers on board already.
“When the vehicle approached the 20km peg after the Harare – Eskbank tollgate,
one of the people produced a knife and threatened the quartet, demanding money.
“His three other accomplices were busy forcibly removing the complainants’ clothes.
They went on to search the clothes and took a Techno Cannon 15 cell phone as well
as other small phones clothes and cash amounting to US$80-00 and then forced
them out of their vehicle as they made a u turn back to Harare.
The four were later rescued by other motorists who then took them to police.
Combined the quartet lost valuables estimated at US$1 255.
