IN an incident that has shocked the Renco Mine community, an elderly couple was killed by their son and three grandchildren over allegations they possessed goblins, which were causing misfortunes in the family.

Masvingo police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the incident and said a 77- year -old Tizirai Chidinhika, and his wife Miriam Polisiri (92) of Chorupanga Village under Chief Nyajena, Renco, were severely assaulted by their son, Rameck Chidinhika (53), and his children, Constancia 28, Vimbai  19 and another female juvenile aged 15 years.

He said on October 11, 2024 at around 7am Rameck and his three daughters went to confront his parents at their homestead.

They allegedly accused the couple of possessing goblins which were allegedly causing misfortune in their family.

“The quartet assaulted the elderly couple switches, logs and a hoe all over their bodies. They sustained deep cuts and several fractures as a result of the assault. The father and daughters team then left the elderly couple lying unconscious on the ground and they went back to their homestead,” he said.

“A neighbour who witnessed the assault advised the police through phone call and police attended the scene. Upon arrival the police discovered that the couple had already died and had sustained several cuts and bruises all over their bodies.”
