Harare, (New Ziana) -Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 death toll jumped to 80 after the country recorded 10 new fatalities on Monday, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said.

The fatalities, eight of which were in the capital Harare, came on the back of 154 new confirmed cases, taking the tally of infections to 4 075.

“The deaths included four males and four females from Harare province, one male from Mashonaland west and one male from Matabeleland South province,” the Health Ministry said.

The country also registered 41 new recoveries, taking the total of those who have healed to 1 057.

The month of July saw the country record an unprecedented peak in new infections and deaths since the first case was registered at the end of March.

Zimbabwe is under an indefinite level 2 lockdown aimed at curtailing spread of the disease but infections continue to spike regardless, with health authorities attributing the increase to lack of observance of set regulations such as compulsory wearing of masks and physical distancing.
