CZI business symposium cancelled

Share

The 2024 Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) Economic and Business Outlook Symposium that was slated for Friday in the capital has been postponed for the second time in as many weeks to pave way for the presentation of the monetary policy statement (MPS) by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), the business body has said.

Initially, the event was slated for last week on Wednesday, but was later moved to Friday this week. It is now unclear when the symposium will be held.

In postponing the symposium, CZI noted that the outlook cannot go ahead before the announcement of the MPS.

“I would like to thank you for the interest and registering to attend the 2024 CZI Economic and Business Outlook Symposium. However, we would like to sincerely apologise that we have had to postpone the Economic Outlook Symposium.”

“As you may be aware, the outlook is informed by two major policies; the Fiscal Policy and the Monetary Policy, and ordinarily the outlook symposium is held after the announcement of both policies. However, the Monetary Policy has not yet been announced,” the CZI, the country’s biggest business body, said.

However, CZI said that the new date of the outlook symposium, where incisive analysis and insights into what business should expect in 2024, will be announced in due course.

A number of key cabinet ministers, including Minister of Finance and Investment Promotion, Professor Mthuli Ncube, the Minister of Industry and Commerce Dr Sithembiso Nyoni, and the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr Anxious Masuka, are expected to address the symposium.

Representatives from a wide array of economic sectors, such as mining, manufacturing, retail and agriculture, are expected to attend the event. Issues that are expected to come under spotlight include policy outlook, the El Nino-induced drought and its effects on commodity prices and more.
