D T Bio Mudimba of team Kujatajata is expected to grace the Shangano Arts Trust festival to be held
between November 22 -27.

The festival which marks its 17th anniversary will be held at the Hwange Colliery gardens running
under the theme Kumusilija which means revived in the local Nambya language.

Shangano Arts Trust Director, Petros Ndlovu said the theme reflects on the history of the
organisation. The organisation has gone through many trials and tribulations over the past few years
but has emerged stronger.

This year, he said other artists such as Mary T usisi wothanda from Victoria Falls, Mntaka gogo from
Lupane, Perseverance from Umguza, Queen of BaTonga From Binga, Providence from Tsholotsho,
Gugu Chile from Hwange, Pezhuba Pachena and Pen pusher Jiti among all local groups are set to
perform during the festival.

The response for artists in Matebeland North Province and other provinces has been very good
unfortunately due to limited funds we cannot take everyone on board so we selected a few for this
year’s festival, he said.

The Programmes officer, Benjamin Ndlovu further revealed that the festival will be held during the
16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence (GBV), hence they are partnering with Women
Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCOZ) in recognising the 16 days activism against GBV.

“We are going to be partnering with WCOZ, on the 26th of November there will be a young woman
conference on GBV,” said the Programmes Officer.

SAT is a non-profit organisation founded in 2007 and registered as a Trust, meant to enhance
knowledge, skills through arts and cultural activities for transformative social change and community
development in Hwange urban, rural and Matabeleland North Province as a whole.

Meanwhile, the Trust has other programmes being run, such as workshops on storytelling as a tool
for advocacy.

We are also doing another project on creatives spaces and freedom of expression for marginalised
creatives in Hwange," said Ndlovu
This year festival is being supported by the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust and European
Delegation in Zimbabwe.
