SHURUGWI — Devolution funds continue to transform communities with the latest area to benefit
being the Totonga community of Shurugwi, following the completion and commissioning of Totonga
    Clinic last Friday.
The clinic has brought joy and health care services closer to people who were travelling more than
15 kilometres to access health care services.
“As a local community, we were forced to travel to either Shurugwi or Chikwingwizha hospitals
because we didn’t have a health facility that catered for us. And to get there it’s plus 15 kilometres
and transport from here is a challenge, which made it difficult for villagers here,” said one of the
    beneficiaries.
Another added, “We thank the government for funding the construction of this clinic through
devolution and as a community, we chipped in with labour.”
The clinic is one of the many projects implemented by the Second Republic meant to improve
people’s lives while reducing the burden of travelling long distances to access healthcare centres.
At the commissioning, Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube
said, “The clinic will bring health care services closer to the people. As the government, our mandate
is to make sure that our people will not travel more than 5km to access health care services.”
The devolution programme has helped local authorities across the country boost health service
    delivery.
