Harare, (New Ziana) – Embracing digital technologies will enable the country to bridge historical divides, empower communities and accelerate progress towards achieving the vision to become an upper middle income society by 2030, an official has said.

Permanent secretary for Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Dr Beaullah Chirume said this at a research dissemination workshop on the National Digital Literacy and Digital Skills Assessment (2025) in Harare on Thursday.

The director for strategic planning and policy in the Ministry Georgina Chingonzo red the speech on behalf of Chirume.

“This is a significant moment for us as a nation, not simply because we are unveiling a study, but because we are acknowledging and embracing the importance of digital literacy as a cornerstone of inclusive national development,” said Chirume.

“Digital technologies have become embedded in the fabric of every society. They are transforming how we live, learn, work and interact with the world,” she added.

The Midlands State University (MSU) conducted the NDSLA on behalf of the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), to provide a deeper understanding of the digital capabilities and readiness for Zimbabweans across different sectors, age groups and geographical locations.

“This assessment reflects a national commitment to evidence-based planning, inclusivity and sustainable digital development. It was not an isolated exercise, but part of a broader policy drive to ensure that Zimbabwe is not left behind in the ongoing global digital revolution. The Fourth Industrial Revolution, with its infusion of technologies such as artificial intelligence, automation, cloud computing and block chain, is disrupting every industry and redefining the future of work and society. In such a context, digital literacy has become an essential foundational skill,” said Chirume.
