A bus transporting foreign nationals for repatriation was involved in a fatal road accident near Beitbridge on June 30, claiming the life of the driver and leaving seven passengers injured.
According to the Border Management Authority (BMA), the bus was travelling from Durban to Musina carrying 65 passengers who were due to be processed before being repatriated through Beitbridge Border Post. Emergency medical teams treated the injured at the scene before transferring them to hospital.
The BMA said officials, working alongside the South African Police Service, Musina Local Municipality, traffic authorities and emergency services, responded swiftly to manage the incident and assist those affected. The South African Department of Transport and Community Safety also confirmed the accident.
Acting BMA Commissioner Major General (Rtd) David Chilembe conveyed condolences to the family of the deceased driver and wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery, while commending emergency responders for their prompt action.
Authorities said the cause of the accident is under investigation as repatriation operations continue through Beitbridge Border Post.
