MEMBERS of the public should desist from tampering with water bodies at this time of the
year either by trying to cross flooded rivers, swim or just play around them since they risk
drowning and being attacked by creatures including crocodiles.
Inspector Milton Mundembe, Zimbabwe Republic Police Mashonaland Central spokesperson,
said the appeal was to every one including those who think they are good swimmers.
His call comes after a 35-year-old man from Chininga Village in Guruve drowned while
swimming in Chininga Dam.
He said Brighton Chininga on 03 February went to the dam in the company of his wife
intending to help her fetch some water for domestic use at their homestead.
After assisting his wife to fetch the water, Brighton bade her farewell as he remained behind
to swim since it was hot.
Just a few minutes later, he drowned only to be noticed by one, Chayambuka who was
weeding a nearby garden.
Chayambuka then mobilised fellow villagers to retrieve the body.
According to Inspector Mundembe, Chininga was also slightly drunk.
He said: On the same note, we also urge parents and guardians to ensure that all unprotected
wells are covered to avoid infants from falling into them.”
