Harare, (New Ziana) –A 36 year old man and his 38 year old female accomplice have appeared before the Harare magistrates court charged with contravening the Children’s Act for allegedly operating an illegal disciplinary and training camp.

Tafadzwa Chidawa and Clara Manyepera who operate the Matrix Disciplinary and Training Camp in Marlborough, Harare, are facing charges of operating an unregistered private voluntary organization and the impersonation of child protection officers.

According to the state, Chidawa and Manyepera established and operated the camp without the necessary registration and licensing required by the Private Voluntary Organizations Act.

The camp, located at Number 2165 Tokwane Close, reportedly aimed to “rehabilitate” children with delinquency issues, and authorities claim that the two admitted youths into the camp from December 6, 2023, onwards.

Furthermore, the State alleges that during the camp’s operation, the duo impersonated child protection officers through offering services legally reserved for qualified individuals, including measures for observing and correcting behaviors contributing to delinquency, as well as providing counselling, supervision and control.

The duo acted unlawfully, thereby breaking the Children’s Act and the state has indicated that it is in possession of video footage of the pair conducting training sessions.

Meanwhile the Hwange magistrates’ court has sentenced Marshal Nyathi (24) from Lwendulu village, Hwange, Matabeleland North province to 18 months imprisonment for aggravated unlawful entry and indecent assault.

Nyathi broke into a woman’s bedroom in the early hours of March 4, 2025. The victim had retired to bed at her home around 9 PM the previous day after ensuring all windows and doors were locked.

Nyathi gained entry to her bedroom at approximately 1:40 AM by opening a window, placing a brick underneath it, and climbing through while naked, awakening the woman as he was attempting to pull down her shorts.

Nyathi apologized and identified himself, professing his love for her with the victim, while pretending to be calm, turning on a light and taking a picture of him.

He attempted to escape through the window, but she prevented him. He eventually fled through the window after she alerted her mother and they went to make a police report.
