HARARE — Dynamos returned to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League top three after edging Herentals College 1-0 in a low-key Harare derby at Rufaro Stadium this afternoon.

The Glamour Boys secured the vital three points through Frank Agyemang’s 25th-minute strike, moving to 50 points after 29 matches and climbing from fifth position.

Agyemang’s decisive effort proved enough to settle a closely fought encounter as Dynamos held on for a precious victory against their fellow Harare outfit.

The result saw Dynamos leapfrog Herentals, who remain on 48 points, with the Students having played 28 matches before today’s fixture. The official Dynamos league table had the Glamour Boys on 47 points and Herentals on 48 going into the weekend’s action.

The victory is an important response for Dynamos, who have endured an inconsistent campaign despite remaining in contention near the top of the table. DeMbare came into the derby with 11 wins, 14 draws and three defeats from their opening 28 league matches.

Herentals, meanwhile, had also put together a competitive campaign, sitting fourth with 48 points from 28 matches. They had won their previous league fixture 2-1 against Bulawayo Chiefs on September 4, following a 2-0 defeat to Highlanders in August.

The two sides had also shared the spoils in their first meeting of the season, playing out a 2-2 draw on May 14.

But at Rufaro today, it was Dynamos who made the crucial breakthrough, with Agyemang’s 25th-minute goal giving the Glamour Boys a lead they ultimately protected until the final whistle.

The narrow victory gives Dynamos a valuable three points as the league enters its decisive final stages, with the race for the top positions becoming increasingly tight.
