HARARE – Dynamos Football Club have suspended head coach Genesis Mangombe with immediate effect pending investigations into a series of serious misconduct allegations that have rocked the country’s most successful football club.
In a suspension letter dated June 2026 and addressed to Mangombe, the Dynamos board said the decision followed numerous complaints and allegations raised by some players and concerns over the coach’s conduct towards members of the club’s Executive Committee.
The suspension comes amid claims ranging from insubordination and alleged use of traditional beliefs in team preparations to match manipulation allegations and breaches of club regulations.
According to the letter, Mangombe allegedly clashed with club executives during a post-training technical meeting held at Glamis Arena on June 18. Dynamos claim the coach showed disrespect towards club officials after being confronted with allegations raised by players and later indicated that he no longer wished to continue as the club’s head coach.
One of the most sensational accusations involves claims that some players were allegedly being forced to participate in traditional rituals, including bathing in substances believed to be linked to juju before matches. The allegations were reportedly raised by goalkeeper Idrissou Nfor Finiar and supported by concerns from other senior players.
The club further alleges that players who refused to participate in such practices risked being left out of matchday squads. Dynamos stated that such conduct would be contrary to club policy and individual employment contracts.
Mangombe is also accused of withholding playing kits from certain players and only releasing them shortly before matches, a move the club says violated established procedures under which all kits are managed by the kit manager.
Perhaps the most serious allegations concern claims of match manipulation. Dynamos allege that Mangombe was involved in influencing team selections and tactical decisions that contributed to unfavorable results in several high-profile matches this season.
The club cited a number of matches that have become the subject of scrutiny, including the Castle Challenge Cup defeat to Scotland FC, the Charity Shield loss to Highlanders, a league draw against Hunters FC, and a defeat to CAPS United.
Further allegations include failure to comply with directives issued by club security officials regarding pre-match warm-up procedures, as well as repeated failure to submit mandatory post-match reports to the club’s Chief Executive Officer despite several reminders.
Dynamos also contend that the allegations have brought both the club and Zimbabwean football into disrepute, particularly the claims involving match manipulation and traditional practices.
The Harare giants stressed that the suspension is a precautionary measure designed to allow investigations to proceed without interference from the coach or any interested parties.
During the suspension period, Mangombe has been relieved of all coaching duties and responsibilities and has been barred from attending team training sessions, matches, or any official club activities.
The club indicated that more specific charges could be preferred against the coach depending on the outcome of the investigations.
Mangombe had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
The developments are expected to send shockwaves through Zimbabwean football, with many now waiting to see the outcome of what could become one of the most significant disciplinary cases involving a top-flight coach in recent years.
This is a developing story.
