ECONET Wireless Zimbabwe Limited, one of the leading providers of telecommunications, media, and digital technology services, has introduced a new 079 mobile number range as the company expands its numbering capacity amid rising demand for mobile services.
The company announced the new range this week, describing the 079 prefix as “fresh digits for a new era of connection.”
This development comes as Econet continues to expand its network and digital services nationwide.
In 2025, Econet had more than 16 million customers after adding 132 new 5G sites during the year, highlighting the ongoing growth in demand for mobile connectivity and digital services.
The operator has also expanded its services beyond conventional voice and messaging to include 4G and 5G connectivity, mobile money, digital platforms, and artificial intelligence products.
The introduction of the 079 range is expected to provide additional numbering capacity as more Zimbabweans adopt mobile communications and digital services.
However, Econet did not disclose how many numbers will be available under the new range or provide a specific timetable for their allocation.
The 079 prefix adds to Econet’s existing mobile numbering ranges as the telecommunications sector responds to rising demand for voice, data, mobile financial services, and other digital products.
