HARARE – Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has emerged as one of the country’s top tax-paying companies after scooping three major awards at the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) Taxpayer Appreciation Day held in Harare on Wednesday.
The telecommunications and technology company was recognised for its contributions to domestic tax revenue, compliance, and responsible corporate citizenship at the event, which coincided with ZIMRA’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
Econet was named among the Highest Overall Contributors for Domestic Taxes and also won the Domestic Taxes Award for the Information and Communication Sector. The company also received the Special Excise Duty Award for Airtime.
Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube presented the awards, with ZIMRA Board Chairman Anthony Mandiwanza among the officials attending the event.
Econet was recognised alongside other major contributors to the fiscus, including Delta Beverages, Zimplats, TM Pick n Pay, CBZ Holdings, and Hippo Valley Estates.
The annual ZIMRA awards honour taxpayers who demonstrate high levels of compliance and make significant contributions toward financing government programs and public services.
Econet’s contribution to the economy goes beyond tax payments, as the company provides telecommunications, digital connectivity, and financial technology services that support individuals, businesses, and other sectors of the economy.
The company has continued to invest in network infrastructure and digital technologies while developing products aimed at expanding access to digital services.
These operations have also supported job creation, enterprise development, and broader economic activity.
The recognition comes as the government continues its efforts to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation and encourage businesses to meet their tax obligations.
Econet said it remains committed to responsible business practices, statutory compliance, and supporting national development through investment, innovation, job creation, and contributions to the fiscus.
