ED arrives at Mafararikwa for Apostolic church meeting

Share

Bocha (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa arrived in Bocha around mid-day on Saturday to attend a Johanne Marange Apostolic church annual pass-over gathering at Mafararikwa, one of the religious group’s biggest events.

He is an invited guest at the meeting, and is expected to talk about the important role churches play in shaping and upholding the country’s moral values.

Since he assumed office in 2017, President Mnangagwa has emphasised the importance of religion, of all shapes, in nation-building and development.

His message is most relevant now as the country heads for a general election next month in which authorities, particularly the head of state, are emphasising on a violence-free poll.

In the past, elections would be characterised by incidents of violence in the lead-up, and post-election periods, often stirred up by the opposition to create grounds to contest the outcome.

At least 30 000 worshipers are estimated to have braved the prevailing cold weather and gathered at Mafararikwa for the church meeting.
