ED meets Mozambican special envoy, German businessmen

Harare(New Ziana)-President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday met with a special envoy of Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, General Julio Dos Santos Jane who expressed his country’s keenness to further bilateral co-operation with Zimbabwe.

President Mnangagwa also met with representatives of a delegation of German business people who are in the country to scout for investment opportunities in the energy sector.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, General Dos Santos Jane said: “I am the special envoy of President Nyusi to His Excellence the President of Zimbabwe. In general terms what I have relayed to the President are issues relating to the bilateral cooperation between the two countries. As you may be aware the cooperation between the two countries, the Republic of Zimbabwe and Republic of Mozambique are historic relations.

“And therefore for the reason, from time to time, there is a need for an exchange of information regarding cooperation. In general terms we did touch on all the areas of cooperation,” he added.

Meanwhile the German delegation said it was keen to invest in the country’s solar energy sector.

“We were invited here to discover what opportunities Zimbabwe has for us and we think there is a great potential for investment, especially energy business. Zimbabwe has extraordinary big potential to establish projects to deliver energy for the population,” said Holt Energy group director general Dr Hendrik Holt.

HoltHolding Group director general Heinz Lutcherhand said they were looking at putting US$7 million for the setting up of a 10 Megawatts solar power plant.

“We seek opportunities in the world where others are not yet and there is no question that Zimbabwe has had a very moved past but now we see a real opportunity to come here and to be one of the first to provide the people of Zimbabwe with more electric energy.

“We have to study the possibilities, we have seen some sites, we have had meetings with lawyers for the structural set up and we have to make studies and so on. The first project that we think we will be doing is something like 10 Megawatts which can be operational by the end of next year,” he said.
