Harare, (New Ziana) –In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested eight suspects for unlawful possession of dagga, Crystal Meth, and some unregistered medicines.

The arrests, which took place between March 2 and 4 this year Harare and Beitbridge, led to the recovery of a substantial haul of illicit substances, marking a major victory for law enforcement in the ongoing battle against drug-related crimes in the country.

The suspects, Mphakamiseni Dhlamini (41), Ishmael Chikara (35), Linda Jimu (26), Priviledge Muchenje alias Ndanatsei Muchenje (39), Sylia Tanyanyiwa (41), Simbarashe Maenzanise (41), Siphelile Mashamba (33), and Alice Shatirwa (29), were apprehended following a coordinated operation by the ZRP.

At least 151 kilogrammes of dagga, 260 bottles of 100ml Broncleer Syrup, and an undisclosed quantity of Crystal Meth were seized during the operation, with the bulk of the dagga recovered at the Beitbridge Border Post, a key transit point for cross-border criminal activities.

ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi commended the efforts of the police force and reiterated its commitment to eradicate drug trafficking and substance abuse in Zimbabwe.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police will not tolerate any form of illegal drug activity. This operation sends a clear message to those involved in peddling and trafficking drugs: the law will take its course without fear or favour,” he said.

Com Nyathi also urged members of the public to continue collaborating with law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activities related to drug and substance abuse to the nearest police station.
