TOWARDS A BETTER LIFE with Constance Mutambirwa

As Zimbabwe strides toward achieving Vision 2030, a national development goal to transform the country into an upper-middle-income economy, the role of women is not just necessary, it is fundamental.

Women make up more than half of Zimbabwe’s population, and their active involvement in all spheres of society is a game-changer in realising the President’s vision of a prosperous and empowered nation.

Now, more than ever, Zimbabwe needs women who are committed to national development. From women in influential leadership positions to those contributing quietly in rural communities, each has a vital role to play.

The success of Vision 2030 hinges on an inclusive approach where women are fully engaged, empowered, and supported to lead and participate in national programs.

Women must take the lead in supporting and implementing Government initiatives in education, health, agriculture, entrepreneurship, climate change and social welfare. When women are empowered, they uplift families, strengthen communities and fuel economic growth.

Behind every successful nation are women who work tirelessly to build, nurture, and sustain development. Whether they hold political office, run businesses, teach in schools, or farm the land, Zimbabwean women are already contributing to the country’s progress. What is needed now is to expand their participation, recognise their potential, and provide them with equal opportunities to lead.

Women need to be represented in decision-making forums, from local governance to national leadership. Their voices bring unique perspectives that shape policies for inclusive growth and sustainable development.

To fully realise the potential of women in achieving Vision 2030, Zimbabwe must address the barriers that hinder women’s progress. These include limited access to financial resources and credit for women entrepreneurs, gender-based violence and societal discrimination, unequal access to education and professional development as well as limited representation in politics and senior leadership roles.

Government, civil society and private sector actors must work together to implement policies that empower women economically, politically and socially. Programmes that support girl-child education, maternal health and women-led businesses should be expanded.

The responsibility of building the Zimbabwe that we want lies with all of us. Women must rise to the occasion, not as bystanders, but as active participants and leaders in shaping the country’s future. Men, too, must support and champion women’s empowerment at home, in the workplace, and in society at large.

Let us remember: no vision can be achieved without the full engagement of women. As the heartbeat of families and communities, women hold the key to unlocking Zimbabwe’s development potential. Together, united in purpose and action, we can transform Zimbabwe into a beacon of prosperity by 2030.

Empowering women is not an act of charity.
It is a strategic necessity and now is the time to recognize the power of women in building Zimbabwe’s future. Every woman, with or without a title, must rise and support the President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision by leading, innovating, educating and inspiring.
Behind great nations are great women driving change.
