Famers 4ED, empowering youths

Share

THE Mashonaland West Chapter of Farmers 4ED is helping empower aspiring
young farmers in the province.

The organisation’s secretary for Youth Affairs, Abiud Musevenzo said they were
strengthening the capacity of aspiring farmers in order to ensure the success and
sustainability of their farming activities.
“As farmers 4ED we have seen the passion on this young man, so we need to invest
in him so he can even help other youths. We need to give him material to build a
modern structure.

“We also need to help him by giving him vaccines so he must be able to vaccinate
pigs twice or at least once a month. Our aim is to give young farmers a chance to do
their work under the banner of Famers 4ED, and we are not stopping there. We will
create markets for their products.”

The chairperson of Farmers 4ED, Tinashe Chikondowa said: “We will be right back
for you and your project, young man, and as Farmers 4ED we will make sure that we
have a hand on this amazing project. I will donate roofing sheets as soon as possible
to make sure the piggery project continues.”

The two officials were commenting after visiting an aspiring young farmer in projects
in Mapinga, Zvimba South District.

In a move designed to curb the unemployment rate among youths in the country,
while at the same time fighting against drug abuse, youths have been given pigs in
groups by Zanu PF district leaders so that they can embark on income-generating
projects in Mapinga, Zvimba South District.

One of the beneficiaries of these pigs, Owen Zuze explained to the Telegraph their
journey from the day they were given the start-up, the challenges they faced and
what they have produced from the project.

“We were given 10 pigs as a group, we managed to reproduce these pigs, and we
have been able to share four pigs per person. We also give other groups of people in
our district. I am benefiting a lot from this project,” said Zuze.

He highlighted that as youths, they are facing many challenges in implementing their
projects. However, Farmers 4ED, have been there to empower the youths to ensure
they become successful famers.

Zuze is expecting about 30 pigs next year and plans to employ other youths when
the production picks up.
