Harare, (New Ziana) – For indecently assaulting his 14-year-old neighbour, a Marondera man has been sentenced to an effective 15 years imprisonment, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has reported.
The NPAZ said the 44-year-old man was convicted by the Marondera Magistrates’ Court for the attack that happened last December 28 as the victim returned home from fetching water at a nearby village.
The man took advantage of his familiarity with the girl, intercepted and asked her to place her bucket of water down. The girl complied and the man grabbed her by the left arm and forcefully led her to a secluded gum tree plantation nearby.
At the plantation, he removed her underwear without her consent and ordered her to urinate on his command before wetting his fingers with saliva and inserting them into her private parts. The victim immediately reported the assault to her father, who reported the matter to the police leading to the man’s arrest.
Separately, the Karoi Magistrates’ Court sentenced a local man to 210 hours of community services for physically abusing his former girlfriend.
The incident occurred on March 22 at Chirundu Motel when the man approached his ex-girlfriend who was seated in the Motel and offered to buy her some beer.
When the woman turned down the beer offer, the man took offence and struck the woman on the forehead with a beer bottle. The woman suffered a cut on the forehead.
In Bulawayo, the NPAZ said a 42-year-old Bulawayo man was fined US$300 for domestic violence that arose from an attack on his former wife that he accused of infidelity. The Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court also imposed an additional six months that was wholly suspended conditionally for five years.
The man and ex-wife were on their way from Hillcrest to Bulawayo’s central business district on March 2 when the attack occurred. The man repeatedly punched the woman all over her body, accusing her of infidelity. The woman had to be hospitalised.
The man was convicted and sentenced to pay a US$300 fine and 6-months wholly suspended sentence for 5 years, on condition that he does not commit a similar offence.
