Harare (New Ziana)-Zimbabwean First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa was on Friday awarded an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Law degree by the University of Zimbabwe in recognition of her philanthropic work through her Angel of Hope Foundation.

Amai Mnangagwa was honoured with the PHD at the institution’s 42nd graduation ceremony which President Emmerson Mnangagwa presided over, capping thousands of graduates with diplomas, first degrees, masters and doctoral degrees.

In her acceptance speech, Amai Mnangagwa said she was humbled by the recognition given to her philanthropic work.

“This is quite humbling. I am indeed overwhelmed by this gesture which I never dreamt of. As I humbly accept this honour, I would like to acknowledge and appreciate the unfailing support which I received from you.

“I also extend my gratitude to the hard-working and goal-oriented staff members of the Angel of Hope Foundation without whom this achievement could not have been realized; the support which has culminated to this award,” she said.

Retired Anglican cleric Reverend Lazarus Muyambi was also awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree together with his late wife, in recognition of their efforts in establishing the church in Gokwe, the Midlands province as well as building schools and clinics.

“I am greatly humbled to be honoured for the work of God, for recognising my religious work. I never thought this day would come while I am still alive. It’s quite a humbling gesture.

“The people I want to acknowledge include the Gokwe community, co-workers at St Agnes Mission Centre, co-workers at the orphanage and many other spaces we created to serve the needy and marginalised,” he said in a speech read on his behalf by his daughter, who accompanied him to the ceremony.
