    Five girls die in car crash

    Harare, (New Ziana) – Five teenage girls were struck and killed, and a sixth injured, when a 51-year old man veered off the road in Bindura, and ploughed into them with his vehicle.

    The girls were walking along the Harare-Mukumbura highway on Saturday. According to police, the five girls who died were from the same family, and aged between 10 and 14 years. Three died on the spot, and two later at Bindura hospital.

    The sixth teenager, and a passenger in the vehicle, sustained serious injuries, including fractures and head trauma, and are hospitalized. The driver, Washington Timburwa from the Zimbabwe National Army’s Two Brigade, Cranborne, Harare lost control of his vehicle, a Nissan Primera.

    “The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 28/09/24 at around 1604 hours at the 90 kilometer peg along Harare-Mukumbura Road in which five people were killed.

    “A Nissan Primera vehicle with one passenger on board hit six pedestrians who were walking along the road after the vehicle had veered off the road before overturning and landing on its roof.

    “As a result, three pedestrians died on the spot and two died upon admission at Bindura Hospital. Another pedestrian and a passenger in the Nissan Primera vehicle were injured and were admitted at Bindura Hospital,” said police in a statement.
