Harare, (New Ziana)- Premier Soccer League sponsors, Castle Lager have voiced serious concern over escalating incidents of crowd trouble, abandoned matches and injuries that have recently marred Zimbabwe’s top-flight football league.
It said the growing cases of disorder at PSL matches threaten the integrity of the game and undermine football’s role as a source of unity and entertainment for Zimbabweans.
Castle Lager condemned acts of violence and misconduct witnessed at several league fixtures, including disturbances that disrupted last weekend’s encounter at Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe where Hardrock FC and Dynamos supporters clashed.
It stressed that football should remain a platform that brings communities together through shared passion, excitement and national pride rather than scenes of chaos and confrontation.
“Castle Lager strongly condemns all acts of violence and behaviour that tarnish the spirit of the game, whether occurring on the pitch or in the stands,” Castle Lager said.
The sponsor emphasised that the wellbeing of supporters, players, referees and other stakeholders must remain a top priority, adding that recent incidents have raised serious concerns about safety at local stadiums.
Castle Lager said it supports ongoing investigations by the Premier Soccer League and relevant authorities aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding the disturbances and ensuring those responsible are held accountable.
It also revealed that it is engaging league officials to identify the underlying causes of repeated crowd trouble and explore sustainable measures that can help restore order and confidence in domestic football.
According to the sponsor, the game should be enjoyed in an environment built on discipline, fairness, mutual respect and unity.
Castle Lager further wished those injured during the disturbances in KweKwe a speedy recovery and appealed to supporters to rally behind their teams peacefully and responsibly.
The latest incidents have intensified scrutiny on crowd control measures and stadium security in the PSL, following a series of matches that have ended prematurely due to fan violence and unrest.
