Harare, (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Thursday received credentials from four ambassador-designates at the State House, with the envoys expressing commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and expanding economic, political and cultural relations with Zimbabwe.
The presentation of credentials marks the formal commencement of diplomatic duties by ambassadors accredited to Zimbabwe and comes at a time when the Second Republic continues to strengthen relations with the international community under its engagement and re-engagement policy.
First to present letters of credence was Domingo Mituy Edjang Adugu from Equatorial Guinea, followed by Vladimir Gracz, the ambassador-designate of the Slovak Republic.
Next to present credentials was ambassador-designate of New Zealand to Zimbabwe, Phillip Hewitt, who described his appointment as a privilege and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening long-standing relations between Wellington and Harare.
He noted the cordial ties between New Zealand and Zimbabwe, adding that he was committed to enhancing cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, trade and education.
Hewitt said there was significant potential for the two countries to broaden collaboration, particularly in agricultural innovation, skills exchange and academic partnerships that can contribute to sustainable development and economic growth.
Meanwhile ambassador-designate of Georgia, Roland Berlize, said he was honoured to officially begin his diplomatic mission in Zimbabwe following the presentation of his credentials to President Mnangagwa.
“It was an honour to present my credentials to President Mnangagwa, and I am keen on my new role,” he said.
Berlize said his mission would focus on strengthening political, economic and cultural relations between Georgia and Zimbabwe, while also laying the groundwork for stronger institutional cooperation.
He called for the establishment of a solid legal framework to facilitate cooperation between the two countries and encouraged Georgian businesses to take advantage of the investment opportunities available in Zimbabwe.
“There is need to build a legal framework for cooperation and I strongly encourage Georgian businesses to explore investment opportunities available in Zimbabwe,” he said.
The comments of the envoys reflect a growing international interest in Zimbabwe as the country continues to pursue investment, trade and diplomatic partnerships across different regions of the world.
