Harare,  (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday received credentials from ambassadors-designate from the Republic of Iran, Ghana, and Zambia at the State House in Harare, a reaffirmation of government commitment to engagement, re-engagement as well as regional and international cooperation.

Addressing the media soon after presenting his credentials, incoming Zambian ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brigadier General Wilson Tembo, said the two neighbouring countries have a long history of cooperation.

“Zimbabwe and Zambia are seismic twins. We had discussions on various areas of cooperation between our two countries, primarily in the fields of energy, transportation, agriculture, and tourism. We also spoke about the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) that have been signed between the two countries and the progress that has been made in implementing them,” he said.

He highlighted Zambia’s steadfast support for Zimbabwe’s quest for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council and the unconditional lifting of illegal sanctions that some Western countries imposed on the country.

In terms of cooperation, Tembo said both countries need to do more.

“We look forward to having more investments between the two countries. Our Minister of Transport is working hard to ensure that projects such as the construction of the railway line between Lions Den in Zimbabwe and Lusaka, as well as the road to link Kanyemba and Luangwa, come to fruition,” he said.

Incoming Ghanaian ambassador to Zimbabwe, Bonaventure Adjavor, said there is a need to enhance trade between the two countries.

“Our relationship is longstanding and is a shining example for other African countries to learn from. This relationship must be elevated, especially on the economic front. We need to take advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), where, henceforth, duty is free for goods to be moved from Ghana to Zimbabwe and vice versa. Through the African Union leadership, we need to develop the transport infrastructure to allow goods to be moved between the two countries without hassles,” he said.

New Republic of Iran ambassador, Amir Hossein Hosseini, said his mission was to enhance bilateral cooperation and strengthen economic collaboration between the two countries.
