Masvingo (New Ziana) – An 18-year-old Masvingo girl has been sentenced to 480 hours of community service by a local court after finding her guilty of assaulting and biting her mother over relish-less sadza.

Mutsawashe Mangwanya pleaded guilty to assaulting her 44-year-old mother, Beauty Mangwanya, and was convicted by magistrate Patience Madondo.

Agreed facts are that at 8 PM on August 3, Mutsawashe arrived home and demanded food from the mother. She was advised that sadza was available but there was no relish.

This angered Mutsawashe, and she kicked her young sister who was holding a pot.

The mother tried to intervene, prompting Mutsawashe to turn on her. She assaulted her with fists several times all over the body, and bit her on the right shoulder.

The mother reported the assault to police, leading to Mutsawashe’s arrest.

Magistrate Madondo sentenced her to three months imprisonment, but wholly suspended the jail term on condition that Mutsawashe performs 480 hours of unpaid work.
