In a bizarre incident that has left Inyathi villagers in awe, a 54-year- old Siphathisiwe Ndlovu woke up to see 32-year-old Sipho Moyo sleeping in her goat pen.

The accused is said to have fallen asleep while attempting to steal Ndlovu’s goats who resided at stand number 104 Hunts man in Inyathi.

According to Prosecutor Farirai Chakamanga, the accused is from house number 2203 Pumula East Bulawayo.

It is said that on March 8 this year at 6am, Ndlovu instructed her herd boy to release goats from the pen for grazing. But when the goat herder went to the pen, he found Moyo sound asleep inside the goat pen, much to his amusement. He alerted his employer about the strange happening. “Ndlovu went on to call other villagers and they all apprehended the accused person who was still asleep.”

The court was told that when the accused person was searched they found him with two knives.

When interrogated by the villagers, Moyo admitted that he had come to the goat pen to steal together with his friend who is still at large. He also admitted that he slept and his friend left him sleeping there. A report was made to the police and the accused person was arrested.

Inyathi Magistrate Ropafadzo Manyande found Moyo guilty and sentenced him to 12 months in prison, six of which were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
