BIKITA – IN a bid to boost healthcare access in Masvingo Province, the Government officially commissioned a new clinic valued at US$1 million, built by Bikita Minerals Company.
This modern facility is designed to serve both the employees of Bikita Minerals and the surrounding communities, including those from Bikita, Gutu, and Zaka.
The newly established clinic is equipped with modern medical equipment aimed at enhancing the quality of healthcare available to residents.
Community members expressed their enthusiasm for the new facility, highlighting the convenience it brings. “We used to travel to Silveira Mission or Masvingo General Hospital for medical attention, but with this facility, we are now accessing improved healthcare,” said a resident who identified himself only as Munyanyi.
During the commissioning ceremony, Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira, praised Bikita Minerals for its commitment to corporate social responsibility, adding: “The commissioning of this clinic points to good corporate social responsibility. We encourage companies to support the Government’s vision of ensuring an upper middle-income society by 2030. This clinic will add to the 28 existing healthcare centres in Bikita District, marking a milestone worth celebrating.”
The managing director of Bikita Minerals, Xuedong Gong, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to fostering a healthy workforce and fulfilling its social responsibilities. “Our old clinic was no longer able to serve our workforce and the community, given that the company continues to expand.
“We invested more than one million United States Dollars to establish this facility, which we believe will significantly improve access to healthcare. As a company, we look forward to continuing our expansion in Zimbabwe.”
Bikita Minerals, recognised as a leading lithium producer, is also exploring plans for a US$400 to US$500 million lithium smelting plant in the country. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Government and its partners to establish more healthcare facilities across Zimbabwe, ensuring that communities have access to essential medical services.
The new clinic stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts between the Government and private sector in enhancing the welfare of citizens and promoting sustainable development in the region.
