MUTARE-The Public Service Commission (PSC) has handed over five buses to districts in Manicaland as part of efforts to improve mobility for civil servants and enhance service delivery.
The five buses are part of the 55 buses that were recently commissioned by His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, during the Public Service Commission Retirement Conference held in Mutare.
The handover ceremony was held in Mutare today, where Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza said the buses will ease transport challenges for government workers, particularly those in remote districts.
“This handover is a demonstration of Government’s commitment to improving conditions of service for civil servants. These buses will go a long way in addressing transport challenges and ensuring efficient delivery of services to our people,” he said.
He said the intervention is in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision of capacitating the public service and leaving no district behind under the Second Republic’s devolution agenda.
The five buses have been allocated to Mutare, 2; Chipinge, Makoni and Buhera.
Civil servants welcomed the development, saying the buses will reduce transport costs and improve attendance at provincial and national programmes.
The commissioning of the 55 buses by President Mnangagwa in Mutare recently was hailed as a major milestone in recognising long-serving civil servants and capacitating the public service.
The PSC said more buses and other incentives are expected to be rolled out to other provinces as Government continues to improve the welfare of its workers.
