Govt working to enhance business operating environment

Bulawayo (New Ziana) -The government is making efforts to enhance the operating environment for business in order to attract both domestic and foreign investment, a Cabinet Minister said on Friday.

Officially opening a National Youth Business expo, Industry and Commerce Minister Sekai Nzenza said the government was also creating space for youths to exploit economic opportunities, particularly within the value chains.

“It should be noted that, Government is making efforts to enhance the business operating environment in order to attract both domestic and foreign investment. The National Youth Business Expo has thus brought to the fore the domestic investment potential from our young entrepreneurs and as such I call upon them to become part of these investors so that they too take part in leveraging on our vast growth potential, ” she said.

Nzenza said the government was also working to transform youths from being just employment seekers but also employment creators.

“As such, our belief is supporting youth entrepreneurship in enhancing the economy’s employment capacity, ” she said, adding her Ministry was also rolling out a local content strategy.

“This strategy seeks to promote usage, production and beneficiation of local produce in all sectors of our economy. As such, the youth being the vital cog in our nation’s development, need to take advantage of this policy and come up with new products and new ways of value adding our nation’s rich natural endowments, for greater export revenue or reduced import bill, ” she said.

The expo was running under the theme” Revitalising and Empowering Youth Business across value chains”.
