Grade 7 exams kick-off smoothly

Harare (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) 2023 Grade 7 examinations kicked off smoothly countrywide on Monday, with stringent measures put in place to prevent leakages, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has said.

The examinations, which began with the English Paper 1, are scheduled to continue until October 9.
Taungana Ndoro, the Ministry’s director of communications and advocacy, praised the meticulous preparations undertaken to ensure a flawless process.

“We started very well, and the exams have kicked off very smoothly. Preparations were above board. We have managed to make sure all the examination papers were delivered on time, and everything is going according to the book,” he said.

He said comprehensive measures had been put in place to deter any attempts to gain unauthorized access to examination papers.

“We do not anticipate that there will be any pre-access to examination papers this year because we have put in place a cocktail of measures to ensure that our security is tighter with Zimsec obviously and even our integrity with those who handle the material is also tighter,” Ndoro said.

“We are good to go. We actually expect a higher pass rate than the previous year’s pass rate, which was around 40 percent. This year, we are expecting to shoot way above that.”
