GWANDA – ALL roads lead to the Matabeleland South Agricultural Show as it opens
its gates to both the business community and members of the public in Gwanda.
The 65th Matabeleland South Agricultural Show began on Thursday and will end on
Saturday.
The show started on a low note as some exhibitors were still putting up their
structures.
The Show is running under the theme: “Sound Value Chain for Transformation and
Economic Productivity” and was officially opened by Environment, Climate and
Wildlife, Mangaliso Nqobizitha Ndhlovu on Saturday.
Show secretary, Thabani Mkhwananzi, said this year’s show is bigger than the
previous ones, which were adversely affected by Covid-19.
“We are still receiving some bookings and enquiries and statistics have revealed that
this year’s show is bigger than the previous one.
“Last year we had 40 plus exhibitors, compared to this year’s show where we have
already received more than 90 exhibitors, who include traditional and new ones.
“We are still calling for more exhibitors because space is still available. We have our
traditional exhibitors such as ZRP, NSSA and long-time hotelier, Gwanda hotel,” said
Mkhwananzi.
He added that they want to transform the show grounds into an economic hub that
will attract investors.
“Our mission is not only limited to show exhibitions but would like to invest in
buildings for rentals.
“The idea is to have this institution running throughout the year and not wait for
annual shows.
“We want attract more investors across all sectors be it agriculture, mining or
manufacturing. Our aim is to grow bigger,” he said.
Other dignitaries, who will be joining the guest of honour will be Matabeleland South
Minister Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Dr Evelyn Ndlovu, traditional leaders and
senior Government officials from the province.

Also expected to grace the event are members from the National Association of
Agricultural Show Societies chaired by Godfrey Mavhankeni.
There will also be a variety of entertainment with Skhobokhobo Madlela being the
star attraction.
