Gwanda, (New Ziana) – The Gwanda Residents Association (GRA) has partnered the local Covid-19 task force and other stakeholders in conducting prevention awareness campaigns against the pandemic.

In a statement, GRA secretary general Bekezela Maduma Fuzwayo said the world is in a perilous position, and required united, concerted efforts to fight Covid-19.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has ordered a total national lockdown, and appealed for united efforts by Zimbabweans, regional and international partners to fight the pandemic.

The country so far has registered 14 cases of Covid-19, and three fatalities among these.

“Gwanda can not by any reason be exempted from the scourge. We are equally affected and with the same risk as the entire world has. It is in this regard that we join all our national and local apparatus to call on you Bantu Bakithi (the people of Gwanda) to begin to take coronavirus seriously and join the global fight to end its spread,” Fuzwayo said.

“The fight against coronavirus needs each and every one of us to be active participants. If just one of us decides to default on the fight all of us are affected. We therefore call on you, MaJahunda Amahle, to deligently adhere to all the on going processes to fight against this disease.”

He added: “We call upon all of us to stay in doors as much as possible and continue to practice strict social distancing, wash our hands regularly with water and soap and where possible use approved hand sanitizers.”

Fuzwayo advised anyone suspecting to have been infected to quickly seek medical assistance at Gwanda Provincial Hospital, Phakama Clinic or any nearest health center where assistance can be rendered.

Of late, Gwanda residents have been panicking after 15 Ethiopian illegal immigrants were found two weeks ago near the town, one of who was seriously ill from an unknown illness.
